MAMMOTH

2010-07-14 11:32:19
With Comic con just around the corner, I sadly must say, we will not have issue 5 ready. BUT, I can guarantee, that when it is ready, it will be Mammoth in size. I believe it's going to top out to at least 40 pages, including pinups, letters, and a special short story titled :The Hogan Files..... I can't wait. sorry to tease but I'm just really excited. I've also added a color version of one of the pinups to my flickr account, which you can access above this blog. Hope you enjoy everything as much as we do producing it and I'll see you i SD with some fresh new copies of issue four which makes its San Diego debut! W

in honor of the raiders and other news

2010-01-07 13:41:35
In honor of their seventh straight losing season I give you "Livin' In The Nation" A little something for everyone that's a football fan and a comic fan... all four of you out there! Ha! This short, that I've posted to my flickr, was done for the Town O' Crazies anthology. It would be worth your time to track down whatever copies of that you can, it features some heavy hitters of the comic industry and me! I hope you find it entertaining. In other news '09 was super for me. Thanks to all the kind words about our comic, The Society of Unordinary Young Ladies. We received more reviews that I'd like to mention: Chris Roberson, a novelist and comic book writer for Vertigo comics gave us a really nice review here http://www.chrisroberson.net/2009/11/society-of-unordinary-young-ladies.html Right now he's writing Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love. If you like our book you'll like his. They're similar ideas and just a fun time. Again I'd like to thank that Pop pixie, Whitney Matheson for including us in the top ten comics of 2009! Right there at number 9! Next year I hope to beat out my boys DKK and Gene Yang! I've got a long way to go! Here's the rest of the top 10 for '09 from Pop Candy http://content.usatoday.com/communities/popcandy/post/2009/12/year-in-review-my-top-10-comicsgraphic-novels-of-2009/1 Thanks again for all he kind words and we look forward to putting out issue 4 soon! It's looking good so far! Wahab

WOW, Big week

2009-10-31 11:59:26
Two big things for me and the guys. First a great review of The Society of Unordinary Young Ladies, by Ain't It Cool News. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/42878 here's my favorite excerpt "Love! This! Book! Best indie surprise all year!" Awesome!!! Next, Joel and I were interviewed by storyboardart.org check out the podcast here http://www.storyboardart.org/?p=675#more-675 We're doing great and the book is getting good reviews. Now I gotta go and try to get my head through the door. Check back soon for issue three! Wahab!

Issue #3 coming soon!!!!

2009-10-25 22:09:30
Wow! I've run out of issue three of The Society of Unordinary Young Ladies! That's awesome news and I know people are looking forward to reading it here on my website. I hope to have issue three up as soon as possible. The guys and I are especially proud of issue three and consider it the best of our work together. We hope you like it too. And if you haven't yet done so, please check out Jeremy's blog http://mightyrobot.blogspot.com/ Jeremy continues to rack up the pretty girls on his site. his latest work was for the Helles Belles Pinewood Derby charity. His third S.O.U.Y.L. cover is amazing as always. He really took up and embraced the challenge of limiting his palette choices. I think he really nailed it too. Joel's blog http://siguastyle.blogspot.com/ He's become an artistic monster! All month he's been serving up Halloween goodies. YOU ARE ALL MISSING OUT!!!! Check out some amazing monster stuff. I'm talking zombies, Frankies, wolfmen, ghosts, Black Lagoon guy, The Human Fly, I'm still waiting for the king of baddies, but I'm sure Joel is just waiting for the right time to wow us. I'm really lucky to be working with Jeremy and Joel... just wait till you see issue 3..........

This Saturday, Gene Yang can SUCK IT!!!!!!!

2009-09-22 20:02:14

HA!!!! http://apature.flinc.org/collections/zines-minicomics Hope to see you there. It goes from 12 to 6pm Wahab

Busy Bees

2009-09-14 18:50:59
While I'm busy working on the script for the next issue of The Society of Unordinary Young Ladies, you guys should check out Joel's amazing work. He's currently destroying his blog http://siguastyle.blogspot.com/ and when I say destroying, I mean he's really going to town. Several new posts. Also check his animation for the FOX/ Aniboom competition http://www.aniboom.com/competitions/Fox/392853/Super-Ninja-Family-Time/ It's about a ninja family! Go Joel! Keep up the great work! Wahab

Thanks

I also want to say thank you to Whitney Matheson who gave S.O.U.Y.L. a stellar review on the U.S.A. Today blog, Popcandy. Read her review here http://content.usatoday.com/communities/popcandy/post/2009/08/comics-roundup-two-pop-culture-books-youll-adore/1 Thanks again Whitney Matheson, you're all right in my book. Wahab

Sorry

2009-08-14 17:49:30
It's been a while and I apologize for that. I never gave a S.D. Comic Con wrap up. It was great by the way. The gang and I all had a blast. Debbie Huey (Bumper Boy author) and I got to visit the L.A. central Library. That place is amazing!!!!! With the exception of the "Teen Zone" which looked like they ripped off the set of Max's from Saved By the Bell... although, when I look at it that way, it seems cooler. The Con itself was non stop! A lot of people returned to our table for the well received third issue of S.O.U.Y.L. and the crowd just seems bigger every year. I know they've capped the number of people in the con, but it still feels like more people were there. The quick highlights were getting David Williams new sketchbook (thanks for the early b day gift Hon(Jack and Lucky author)!) Checking out the sideshow collectable battle scenes. They had a couple which I would have bought...if I weren't broke. Punisher vs. Daredevil and Psylocke vs. Spiral. They were both very bad ass!!!! Check 'em out on the sideshow collectable website. Another huge thing for me at the Con was hanging out with my friends. It's been a long time since I really sat down with Jerome, or Surge. My friends that are down in the south too, Darnell, Josephine, Chris and Mike. I think I look forward to the con for that part as much as the comics. That had to be the best part about it, hands down, seeing the gang. Thanks guys for making the trip worth it. Last and definitely not least, hanging out with Jeremy Natividad (Mighty Robot badass artist and cover artist for S.O.U.Y.L.) THAT MAN IS A HOOT!!!!!! We were all laughing, with him, about his goofy hijinks. Now, if you hear anything about what I did down there, don't believe it unless you read it here!!!!! DONE AND DONE

2009-07-20 18:46:32
Okay, issue #3 of the Society of Unordinary Young Ladies is done! I'll have it for Comic Con at table O-15, in the small press. Get your copy there! I'd also like to say, thanks to everyone who helped and especially Jeremy and Joel, who really stepped up their games. Hopefully, I joined them in the quality dep. and this issue will read and look better than the last issue. They both did an amazing job and I am honored if not humbled, to be doing this with them. Joel is showing the potential that I knew he has and Jeremy never stops amazing me. I can't wait to see the Mightyrobot book. If you haven't, check out his blog at http://mightyrobot.blogspot.com/ There's a sexy picture of me printing the covers for issue #3 on his blog right now. Don't miss me in all my sexiness! Wahab

It's also up on their website. http://www.ningyoushi.com/category_s/70.htm The pic of my painting is kind of ehh, but it gives you an idea of what I did. Plus you get to see all the other awesome artists, like my buds Anthony, Ben, Benny, Brian, Jeremy, Josh, and of course Sherwin!

It's Showtime!

2009-06-07 20:06:34
I finished my paining for the Masters of the Universe show at double punch Gallery. The show is later this month. Check out my flicker images for the flyer. Hope to see you all there. I'll post my painting after the opening night. Check out http://www.doublepunch.com/ for a preview of the show, a lot of really good stuff. Wahab

PRETTY COOL

2009-03-22 23:07:09
A couple of my friends mentioned that one of my screen prints was spotted in the Dave Choe documentary called Dirty Hands. I'm not sure which print but that's pretty cool I guess. Apparently he bought one from me at a con and has it hung up in his bedroom. I don't really follow Choe, but Slow Jams was pretty cool...

Wrap up

2009-03-03 00:07:35
Wonder con was great. I was happy to meet all the new fans of my art. Some people were too nice, thanks a lot. I look forward to seeing everyone in San Diego and in the mean time, I'll be busy working on a couple comics for comic con. S.O.U.Y.L. issue #3 and Titillating Tales #7! Wow! #7 I can hardly believe that. Any hoot thanks again to all the new faces, and old, that came through. Wahab
